Corrections and updates

Agencies change fees and forms constantly, and we get things wrong sometimes. A wrong fuel tax rate or permit fee costs a carrier real money, so we treat every correction as a priority. This page explains how Haul Handbook fixes errors and keeps its facts current. Report a correction

Every legal and financial fact on our pages carries a source and a verification date, but fees, rates, forms, and agency contacts change, and errors are possible. If you spot something wrong or out of date, from an IFTA rate to an oversize permit fee, please tell us. Include:

• The page (a link is ideal) and the fact that looks wrong.
• What the correct information is, and where you saw it (an official agency page such as FMCSA or the state DOT is ideal).

How we handle a correction

When a report comes in, we check the claim against the official source that owns the rule: FMCSA for operating authority, IFTA Inc. for the quarterly fuel tax matrix, the IRS for the heavy vehicle use tax, or the relevant state DOT, DMV, or revenue department. When we confirm a correction against that source, we update the page and its verification date. If a report turns out to be right that a fact is unconfirmable, we remove the number rather than leave a guess in its place. We would rather fix one number than mislead one reader.

How updates are tracked

Each displayed rate, fee, threshold, or deadline renders from a structured data record that carries its own source link and verification date, so a change to a fact is a change to the underlying data, not just the prose. When a rate or rule changes, we update the data first and the writing follows. If the two ever disagree, the sourced data wins and the prose gets fixed. Every legal and financial page shows the date it was last verified so you can see how current it is.

Scheduled reviews

Beyond reader reports, we review time-sensitive data on a schedule. The IFTA fuel tax matrix is refreshed each quarter when IFTA Inc. publishes new rates, and federal filing fees and forms are rechecked against their agency sources on a regular cadence. A fact is labeled as agency-verified only when an official government or program source backs it as of its verification date.

Haul Handbook is maintained by Evan Reid, founder of the site. He is not an attorney or a financial advisor, and the site does not provide legal or financial advice.
