The Florida intrastate rule
Federal USDOT registration depends on the vehicle and operation. The rows below show what Florida requires for carriers operating inside the state. Our state DOT number requirements table holds the same answer for every state. A field reading "Not confirmed" means this guide has no verified figure for that field.
Vehicles with a declared gross vehicle weight of less than 26,001 pounds transporting property that does not require hazardous materials placards are exempt from the intrastate USDOT number requirement under section 316.302(2)(f), Florida Statutes; a seasonal exemption also covers agriculture, horticulture, and forestry during seasons of harvest under section 316.302(2)(e).
FLHSMV requires companies, including carriers solely engaged in intrastate operations, to register for a USDOT number and display it on all commercial motor vehicle power units.
No separate Florida carrier number
Florida issues no separate state carrier number and runs no state operating authority program for property carriers; the USDOT number itself is the credential Florida requires and enforces on intrastate trucks.

There is no Florida enrollment portal for the intrastate USDOT requirement; carriers register with FMCSA, and FHP Commercial Vehicle Enforcement enforces the registration and display rules on the road.
